Back to Blogging

I was playing around on the computer, when suddenly, my old blog about my work in aged care popped up, 2009, wow. So I thought I would update my work stories.

Student EN Now.

Since 2009, Lots of things have happened to this crazy PCA. No longer just a PCA, but a Senior Carer, soon to be EN. Yay cannot wait. Did it for the pay rise. Nah, just kidding. Did it so I don't have to change many more of those oversized baby diapers.

I know babies pee a lot. But seriously how much pee can one oversized baby diaper hold.
I might have to wear one and try it out. I love how our ressies look in their diapers. You can tell if someone has one on, even the pull up type are a dead give away. Come on people, no one has a flat bottom. Now you will be checking all the oldies out in the shopping centres. The only way to disguise them, is if the ladies wear dresses. Then you look at the oldies walk, are they walking funny, because they are bowed legged, OR is it because they have this super sized full of wadding should between their legs. My money is on the latter one. This is what probably made them bow legged in the first place, not osteo-arthritis.

The ressies are just like oversized babies. I am not kidding. Come to my work place at meal time and check out 40 aged people wearing bibs. Sorry that should be 'clothes protectors' Oversized babies in their oversized diapers wearing oversized bibs. Some dribble, some have 2 handle cups. Some even have lip plates, so the food doesn't escape of their plate. Next they will want oversized high chairs. Come to think of it we have them, we have trays that clip to the tables, they even look like portable high chairs. Some ressies can even throw tantrums. and they can't talk properly.
Our diapers are not as cute as the little version, we don't get wetness indicators or pretty little pictures on them. We just have white ones with coloured stripes on them. Different colours for the amount it holds. If I am going to expect staff to be happy to change them, I might have to look at making them more pretty looking and adding wetness indicators.
Not the type that cute little bubs have, the ones where the pictures change colours etc. Staff cannot be expected to lift up dresses or ask the oldies to drop their dakks, so their diaper can be checked. Come on. We are taught to treat out elderly with dignity and respect. So therefore, I need to be more creative, So our wetness indicators need to be more like alarms. Something like a fire engine siren for, Hey my diaper is full of pee and a very loud robot voice, like the robot from" Lost is Space". Danger Danger This thing is about to explode if not emptied, type of thing.
Let me know what you think.
So until next time. "Have your bowels opened lately.
